Artist Biography
Inger Nova Jorgensen began her life in the bustling university
town of East Lansing, Michigan. Each of her parent's (both artists)
were able to show her the importance of the creative force and ways
to harness it. She was encouraged to be creative from a very young
age and began to draw figures constantly at the age of three. Inger
moved on to the Pacific Northwest in her late teens and earned a
Bachelor of Fine Art and Teaching with honors at Humboldt
State University in Arcata, CA.
Inger now resides with her inspirational and creative son in Ashland,
Oregon — a small, cultural, mountain, community where she paints
regularly and owns and operates Bohemia Gallery and Framing with her
business partner, Nicole Hurley. Inger is also a muralist and a
portrait artist. She enjoys using her skills as a large-scale painter
to bring in new energy to restaurants, shops or people's homes. Her
favorite public space to paint is a club that focuses on live music.
Inger incorporates her passion for music to create thematic murals
according to the style of the venue. She is also a vocalist and is
continuously cultivating musical projects as well as performing
occasionally. Inger is a skilled portrait artist and often works by
commission from photographs or life.
Art and music weave interchangeably in Inger's studio. Her paintings
are often inspired by the passion she has developed in her own musical
style: jazz, R & B, soul, alternative, and folk- rock. Her work
includes musicians and instruments using a high-energy color and
technique referred to as figurative impressionism. Each completed
piece captivates and pulls the viewer into another dimension, connecting
each person to unseen spiritual aspect of life that emanate s as
the true universal essence in all of her work. Inger often refers
to her process as "being an open conduit" that "allows
the images to show themselves to the world."
Next to raising her son (a creative endeavor in and of itself)
and singing, painting is only second to the basic essentials: nourishment
and shelter. Inger lives and breathes art. Painting and sculpture
are her chosen media because they have a fluidity that she seems
to carry as a theme throughout her life.

"Oil paints and clay are like food for me... the nourishment
I receive from creating art is healing to my soul and an absolutely
essential part of my life, my meditation and my spiritual existence.
This is the way in which I will leave my mark, how I stay alive
and the reason that I am who I am. I feel very blessed to know this
and to be able to be given the opportunity to pour myself into my
work."
Inger's favorite medium is oil on canvas. She often equates oil
paints with silk sheets... Oils offer a luxurious experience to
the artist: vibrancy of color, richness and depth achieved with
translucent layers, and the flexibility in paint consistency. With
clay it is a similar experience for Inger and working directly in
the medium with her hands gives her a unique connection. She often
uses her fingers to paint; Threshold being one of her favorites.
Inger intends to continue creating art until she leaves this world
and plans to share her knowledge with young people. She feels very
strongly about working with kids, especially teens, to help them
find their individual creativity, help them to become empowered,
and allow them to express their authentic selves through the arts.
She teaches classes privately out of her new studio space/frame
shop in Ashland. Inger recently served a year on the Public Art
Commission and enjoys community-minded projects. She often works
with groups of kids to create murals for schools.
